My LACK of Neighborhood

To me a Neighborhood does not have to shape you. There are people that let that shape who they are or people that say they came out of a neighborhood that was pointing them in the wrong directions but to me or at least in my case a neighborhood played no part in what I am. I don’t think this is the case always there are times where because of everything that’s going on in and around your neighborhood it is all you know, whether it be good or bad, this is case sometimes. For me in my own experience I never spent much time in my neighborhood I always liked roaming around to different places, I can never stay in one area because I like to get the big picture. There’s nothing about my neighborhood that suggests that, I live in the El Cerrito hills which is one of the wealthier areas in the bay area, most of the people that live in that area like living in their own oasis because it is what’s comfortable to them. I can’t stay there for too long because it just gets down right boring but then again at the same time I like living in the area because of all the nature. I can almost say that what shaped me was the lack of attachment to anyone place, I need to test my boundaries in many different areas to get the full picture.

  1. This post reveals an interesting take on the concepts of "neighborhood" and "environment." The poster suggests that his environment is not limited to his immediate neighborhood and that the environmental influences that have shaped him have come from several locations, not just the area where he lives. This post suggests that they way that a person defines their "environment" can shape how that environment influences their perceptions of themselves. recognition of this fact can be very empowering. I especially like the statement "I need to test my boundaries in many different areas to get the full picture." Challenging the boundaries of limitations (in this blog, limitations being a "neighborhood")allows one to move past those limitations to realize a different reality (a different reality in this blog being a "lack of a neighborhood").
